Creating opportunities for Asian Leaders in Wellington

With a strong focus on developing the next wave of change-makers, entrepreneurs and super diverse leaders, the NZAL Wellington Committee is working hard to create opportunities for Asian leaders in Wellington.

Set up in early 2018, the NZAL Wellington Committee is chaired by NZAL Established member, Kayo Sakey, consists of NZAL member, Priscilla Edmonds, Councillor David Lee, Asoka Weerasundara, Mahes M Hettige, Simon Park, Lynda Chanwai-Earle and supported by Supriya Rathod, Peter Ngan, Tania Han, Christine Young and Loretta Mamea.

Focused on building strength through individual stories and journeys, the NZAL Wellington Committee conceptualised and executed three events in 2018 – “The next wave: Change-makers, Entrepreneurs and Superdiverse leaders”, Dream Up workshop and “Survive, Thrive and Lead – NZAL Wellington End of Year Soap-box networking event”. These events resulted in quite a few engaging conversations and inspirational takeaways for the attendees as well as the speakers, such as Golriz Gaharaman, Laurie Foon, Lynda Chanwai-Earle, Guy Ryan, Anthony Young, Ben Gleisner and Tui Te Hau.

Having an understanding of the needs and demands of Wellingtonians, the committee is keen to take their achievements from 2018 a step further and celebrate NZ’s diversity in ways that are unique to the Asian community within the capital. With its focus clearly on a “Survive, Thrive and Lead in NZ” theme,  the Wellington Committee has planned a diverse 2019 calendar. Watch this space for details on their upcoming event.
