Terry Lee Managing Director at Westlake Capital Limited
Terry Lee has extensive international investment and corporate management experience, with over 25 years of successful practice in markets across China, Singapore, Hong Kong, and New Zealand. He holds a master’s degree in international finance from East China Normal University and migrated to New Zealand in 2003.
Throughout his career, Terry has held significant senior management roles, notably serving as Managing Director of Milk New Zealand Holding Limited, Milk New Zealand Dairy Limited, Theland Tahi Farm Group Limited and Top Harbour Limited.
Under his leadership, Milk New Zealand successfully led OIO approval and the acquisition of several large farm groups and various commercial real estate ventures in New Zealand, including
- The Land Tahi Farm Group (Crafar Farms) (2012)
- Gulf Harbour Land (2012)
- Theland Purata Farm Group (Synlait Farms) (2013)
- Queenstown Hilton Hotels and Light Quay Debts (2014)
- Spark Building A and D (2017), Building B (2018).
He established the company as one of New Zealand’s leading farm enterprises for Pengxin Group, producing 10 million kg of milk solids annually, supplying dairy processors such as Fonterra, Synlait, and Miraka.
While managing Top Harbour Limited (2012-2018), he facilitated the development of Gulf Harbour, significantly enhancing local infrastructure, including marinas, ferry services, and public amenities.
Active within New Zealand’s business community, Terry previously served as Deputy President (2014-2018) and Honorary Director (since 2019) of the Chinese Chamber of Commerce in New Zealand (CCCNZ). He is also a member of the Advisory Board for NZ Asian Leaders, was involved with the IBM Think Tank in New Zealand, and has served as an acting member for the QEII National Trust.
Terry’s expertise extends to investments and acquisitions in China, New Zealand and Australia. He led due diligence and acquisitions for several notable projects, including acting on behalf of the owner for the refinancing of Zhengzhou Yellow River Bridge project (1994), being project advicor for the TOT (Taking, Operation and Transfer) of Shanghai Pujiang Tunnel and Bridge Company (1996 -1997), participating in Shanghai North Outer Ring Motorway BOT project as General manager of Investment Department of Pengxin Group.(2002), acquisition of the Hong Kong-listed company Interchina (2015) for Pengxin Group, and led due diligence of Jetpack, Australia’s Kidman Farm and Tasmania’s VDL Dairy Farm.
He has actively promoted government relations between China and New Zealand, frequently organizing and hosting high-level bilateral business exchanges and governmental meetings. He bridged New Zealand Government officials, including New Zealand Prime Minister, with Shanghai Entrepreneur Association. From 2018 to 2022, he organised and hosed Organised and hosed MPI Food Safety and Market Entrance Workshop for CCCNZ.
Due to his distinguished achievements in business and investment, Terry was frequently invited as a keynote speaker at prestigious events, including the China Business Summit, APEC Business Summit in Auckland, and the China-New Zealand Agriculture Cooperation Forum.
During the period Terry served as Managing Director of Milk New Zealand Dairy Limited from 2012 to 2024, the company focused on dairy supply chain management and market expansion. Under his leadership, the company has become one of China’s top imported dairy brands, generating annual revenue of up to 800 million RMB, and successfully expanding into the OEM dairy business for Milk Delux (特仑苏) Global Selection with annual revenue of 400 million RMB from 2015 to 2022.
