Unlocking leadership potential: A step towards future success
NZ Asian Leaders (NZAL), in collaboration with Outward Bound, has sponsored a five-day leadership course for one of the emerging members of NZAL, Charmaine Lam.
“This initiative is part of our ongoing commitment to future-focused development.”, says Kayo Sakey, NZAL Co-Chair. “When Outward Bound approached us, we immediately recognised the value this training would bring to our young members. Our purpose is to help create success stories by and with New Zealanders of Asian heritage and providing exposure to this kind of professional development is invaluable for their growth.”
“We’re deeply committed to empowering the next generation of diverse leaders,” says Malindi MacLean, Chief Executive of Outward Bound. “Partnering with NZAL is a natural fit—together, we’re providing transformative experiences that build confidence, resilience, and the skills needed to lead with purpose. It’s through initiatives like this that we can truly make a difference in shaping the leaders of tomorrow.”
This course took place with the beautiful Marlborough Sounds as the backdrop, where a diverse group of participants came together to support one another’s personal growth. “With the very diverse group that I was in, I learned not only leadership skills but how people can work together despite their differences.” says Charmaine. “ With this experience under my belt, I have a newly found confidence in outdoor activities and water sports, too. Going forward, I’d like to do more outdoorsy, watery sports more often!”
